Technological change is continuous. However, most of the time the old technology is just phased out. It is rather rare that it becomes unusable overnight. This article treats such an example where a centrally coordinated technology is substituted for another solution. In a state-orchestrated switch-over analogue terrestrial television was replaced by digital terrestrial television and to be able to continue watching, you had to adjust and get new equipment. My main interest is how this was justified and how technology featured in the arguments for change.
