Alyssa Culp als Gastforscherin an der LMU

Alyssa Culp (Univ. of Tennessee, Knoxville) hat ein Fellowship des Fulbright Open Study/Research Award angetreten, um ihre Forschung in verschiedenen Archiven in und um München zu vollenden. Der Fokus ihrer Forschung liegt an der Schnittstelle zwischen Wissenschaft, Medizin, und lokalen Traditionen. In ihre Dissertation "Death, Tradition, and the Making of the Modern Morgue in Rural Bavaria, 1855-1914" setzt sie sich damit auseinander, wie sich das Verständnis der Bayern von Tod, Begräbnis, und dem Leichnam durch das Aufkommen der Leichenhalle im 19. Jahrhundert veränderte. Während ihres Aufenthalts als Gast-Fellow an der LMU wird Alyssa Culp diese institutionellen Entwicklungen und den Einfluss medizinischer und staatlicher Interventionen auf die deutsche Kultur und Identität untersuchen.

Alyssa Culp is currently on a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award to complete her research at various archives in and around the Munich area. Her research focuses on the intersections of science, medicine, and local tradition. Her dissertation, “Death, Tradition, and the Making of the Modern Morgue in Rural Bavaria, 1855-1914,” investigates how nineteenth-century Bavarians’ cultural and social understandings of death, burial, and the corpse changed with the establishment of the morgue. Alyssa Culp will examine these institutional developments and explore the impact of medical and state intervention on German culture and identity while working as a Guest Fellow at LMU.
