Recollections and New Directions: Symposium in Memory of John Heilbron (1934-2023)
05.07.2024 – 06.07.2024
We are delighted to invite you to Recollections and New Directions: Symposium in Memory of John Heilbron (1934-2023), which will take place on 5-6 July 2024, at LMU Munich and Deutsches Museum.
John Heilbron was undoubtedly one of the most intelligent, productive, and unpretentious scholars in history of science. He wrote important books on the history of twentieth-century physics, early modern astronomy, and learning and scholarship. All are models of sharp analysis in readable prose.
John spent most of his academic career in the USA, but his influence was felt strongly in Europe, especially Germany, where he was an early supporter of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. This symposium celebrates John’s legacy by reflecting on his intellectual and institutional achievements and by exploring new directions in the history of the (physical) sciences inspired by his work.
